Below are some shots taken between 1987 and 1989 in and around JD. Many of the shots were taken from inside the tower. I loved JD because you never knew what you would see. CSX owned the tracks but transfer runs from, Conrail, NS, RF&P and even Guilford could be seen. The late 80's was a transition period for CSX so there were still plenty of B&O, Chessie, and even Western Maryland engines floating around. As I get time to go through more slides, I will post them here. Don Smith

This shot is an interior self-portrait that tower operator Bob Uhland took in 1977. He had a squeeze-bulb to trigger the shutter on his camera to record the
scene.

Next, is a thunderstorm in the summer of 1985. The sky was nearly black, but Bob and JD Tower were nicely illuminated. The premier train during second trick was the eastbound Orange Blossom Special, which always had RF&P power due to the need for cab signals. On this day Barry Mayer was the engineer. I brought along my Frisco semaphore. Bob told Barry over the radio to expect an unusual aspect while picking up train orders. Barry responded by lighting one of the 2 red marker lights on
RF&P 145. I was waiting to catch the shot.
